Painting With Vinyl 2008 | MOP Projects
The group exhibition, Painting with Vinyl features painters who work in the ‘expanded field’. In other words, it focuses on painters that depart from canvas but continue to pose painting-specific questions about foreground/background relations, surface, supports and materiality. The exhibition shows how these questions are manifested in Sarah Newall, Mary Wenholz and Bonita Bub’s paintings and more particularly how they commonly use vinyl as a substitute for canvas. ‘Painting with vinyl’ takes place with Newall’s poured paint 'furniture' occupying the walls and floor, Wenholz’s large grey-scale brushstrokes on transparent vinyl stretches across a wall while Bub occupies the middle floor space with three large
